I rarely post about myself, but a heartwarming encounter at the storage facility yesterday inspired me to share my story. As I was leaving my unit, one of the workers zoomed by on a golf cart, and we exchanged warm greetings. They complimented my hair, saying it was beautiful, curly, and pretty. Their kind words reminded me of a time when someone made a hurtful comment about my curly hair, calling it a messy Afro, but instead of letting it bring me down, I chose to embrace my natural beauty. I’ve learned to love my curls, and in doing so, I’ve gained confidence and freedom from the opinions of others. My hair may look tangled or frizzy to some, but it’s soft, natural, and uniquely mine.
By embracing my curls, I’ve discovered a sense of self-acceptance and empowerment. I’ve come to realize that my hair is not just a part of my appearance, but also a reflection of my personality and strength. When we choose to love and accept that thing about ourselves that seems to offend others, we open ourselves up to a world of possibilities and positive change.
My journey to embrace my curls and Afro has ended with love and acceptance, and positivity. Not because of what was said to me but in knowing that what and how I felt about my hair within my own mind was now being expressed outwardly during my encounters with others.
When you walk out loving your hair, trust me when I say everyone notices.

What have you accepted about yourself that others tried to use to negatively impact you?
Let’s talk about it in the comments, Besties!
