New to Design Guide

Home New to Design Guide

If You've Never Hired a Designer Before...

Working with a design professional doesn’t have to be intimidating, and you don’t need to worry about open-ended services. Not only can we do all of the creative work, we also co-create with you. Why? We understand that life happens and you deserve to take the vacation you’ve been dreaming of, even while you’re working with a designer. You also deserve to have a home you can enjoy after a long day at the office.

Did  you know that most design projects can be done in stages? This is a little known fact amongst the public that design happens over time and in stages. Yes, your concept is pulled together all at once but when it comes to purchasing, we entertain the idea of proceeding in stages. This makes it easier for you to comfortably achieve the look you want. Here’s how it works: We pull together the design with furniture, art, and accessories. Once you approve the concept and pricing for each item, you may decide to proceed in stages. This means that if you would like to move forward with the draperies first, you may do so. Once those are installed, you may choose to move forward with the pillows. After that, when the time comes, you may choose to accessorize.

When you work with Carolina Moncion Design, you aren’t pressured to do everything at once. Even if you include a lite remodel of an area in one room. While it is not recommended to execute a remodel in phases or stages, the rest of your design can be completed in stages. This means that if your intentions are to replace your kitchen backsplash, refinish the cabinets in the adjoining area, and obtain new furniture, you can select – and we can also suggest – which part you would like to start with. Once that phase is complete, the other two stages are on hold and can resume when you are ready.

Interior Designers do not work for you full-time. This is another little known fact. You can hire a designer to work as many hours or as few hours as you are comfortable with. It is highly recommended for you to have them create a design for you and they to follow, not breaking apart the time spent in order to speed up the process and ensure that you will receive a cohesive look in the end. You can also choose to the all of the purchasing and ordering yourself. This service is called the Design Concept.

We understand that things happen, unexpected events take precedence, and that sometimes, you just need to take that vacation. This is why we have broken down our services to accommodate our clients, with options that keep them comfortable throughout the life of the agreement.  We don’t tell you what to do, we make suggestions. We work with you and assist you, as you need us to.

Don’t be intimidated by the thought of hiring a design professional. Our job is to create an environment you can live in and enjoy. Here at Carolina Moncion Design, that’s our  No.1 goal.

The Process

Our process for meeting with homeowners for any design-based project:

1. An initial short interview will be conducted to inquire about your needs and budget.

4. A secondary interview and project discussion will take place.

5. Design service  – inclusive of plans and materials suggestions – begins. Throughout this process, there may be repeat visits, emails and phone calls for discussing items and for a design concept review.

6. Contractors will be called in to obtain quotes for scope of work.

7. Pricing and materials review takes place.

8. Signing of Purchase Order Agreements.

9. Product order will take place.
