“I want something more grown up. I’ve had the same furniture since I was six years old.”
When we were asked to update a young lady’s room and turn it into something she could grow into, we were excited! How often do you get to cater to a teen that is coming of age and has worked hard to earn this opportunity through her parents? This was our second and even though they asked us if we could work in stages, over a period of months to get it done because it was financially comfortable for them, we said “Yes!” because decorating at a slower pace is an option in our office. 😉
First visit of the room: September 6th, 2016.
It’s very important to interview the resident.
Without their input, we can only guess if we are right and we should never be about guessing.
My office policy is that I would rather be precise than guess I am right.
September 14th, 2016: This is a Preview of the Space Plan for bedroom.
We were moving her out of a daybed and into a full-size and that meant getting the furniture layout right.

This is a video of how the floor plan was created.
Sarah and her mother had furniture ideas and had left it to me to make the right decisions in which to order due to sizes and layout, as well as the final look that would guide the final design.
No matter what is designed, it is always up to the client(s) to decide what they will take and use from our presentation.
September 24th, 2016:Â The room was painted by our friends and colleagues from DesignFitCo. President Reynaldo Ortiz and DesignFitCo. Partner Nancy Ortiz were on the scene jump-starting the transformation!
The Furniture was delivered Wednesday September 28th, 2016.
I felt Sarah was a little more traditional in her style so from their initial choices, we opted for something that could be considered timeless with unexpected contemporary touches to complement the decor that was being curated just for her.
This is a video of DesignFitCo at work, meticulously painting the room., along with a brief interview with Sarah’s mother on how she felt about our progress.
The theme for Sarah’s room was coming to life in the workroom.
The fabrics for her custom pillows were presented and accepted.
The custom greenery was being made as well.
A sneak peek at one of the custom pillow covers that was just completed.
This is a piece of custom art by fellow designer and colleague Ana Damaris Then. Since Sarah had long grown out of her tutu phase, during the design process, the thought that she would welcome a piece she would grow to love was ordered for this special project. Interestingly enough, Sarah’s mother fell in love with this piece and decided to keep it for herself!
We are loaded up and ready to deliver decor!
There are many wonderful and totally unexpected pieces headed to their new home!
Here’s a closeup of the custom pillows we designed just for this bedroom.
Skippy loves the new bedding!
December, 2016:Â A Brief Video before the second visit where more decor, mirrors and lamps were delivered.
Both Sarah and her mother asked about storage for her books. Sarah is an avid reader and it was suggested a storage bench would be a perfect solution for her once-overflowing book collection.
It was a cold Winter day but the decor was installed! Now, while we wait for the custom drapery, on to the Guest Room, per client request!
