When we bought the house in Waco, we knew we wanted to remodel the kitchen as soon as possible.
We just needed to design it. We wanted to update the house and I mean really update the house because it just didn’t fit our definition of updated. This was our first investment property so we looked for a house with the intention of fixing up the entire home. And since the kitchen is the heart of the home, why not start the updating there?
We wanted new. We wanted today’s style. We wanted City.
Starting with the layout, we decided to move the refrigerator to closer to the entrance of the kitchen. In the original layout, the refrigerator was closer to the back of the kitchen and in order to update it and make the best use of space, the range and the fridge were swapped. This also brought the sink closer to the range and pantry which we found was very important. We also planned on re-designing the pantry since there was a waste of valuable space in this area. The new design calls for pull-out rolling shelves and opening up the entire doorway. The sink area will stay the same but this also requires an update on the sink itself, the faucet, and cabinets, as you would expect. What’s a kitchen update if you don’t update the entire space? As for the microwave: Because it is a small home and what we believe was for university students or staff, we didn’t want to install a built-in microwave oven. We decided a counter-top unit was just fine. Ohh! And lets not forget the new eating area that is built-in and just outside the kitchen! The house is small, it doesn’t really have room for a table but adding a built-in station that’s not only for eating but doubles as a homework desk is a winner! What do you think?
Here’s a preview of the kitchen layout, hot off the press!
