Autumn is one of my favorite seasons.
I grew up in New England so I miss the different colors of the falling leaves. There’s something special about the harmony nature displays when the season comes around. Warm red tones, rich golden Umber, under-stated Plum. All of these against green and it’s a beautiful blend of color theory.
Mornings start very early in our house. Between 4am and 5am, there’s a lot of movement as we prepare for the work day. Our two Miniature Schnauzer pups, Lili and Bella, are excited to go outside in Autumn – not just for it’s cooler weather but to chase “Charlie” our resident (wild) bunny rabbit that visits my garden four times a day. I try to wait until Charlie has finished shopping and has checked out before we go outside. Sometimes it’s a hit or miss but I don’t think he minds. He keeps coming back, like clockwork! I did notice – just the other day – that while I stepped outside, a really cool breeze swept around us. We were excited! It’s hot in Texas, up until mid or late September so we welcome the cooler months! We finally felt the season settle in this morning. It was colder out this morning. Welcome Autumn!
I was inspired by the colors I saw that reminded me of Autumn at home and how I enjoyed walking through the grand parks that had these tall trees that littered the ground and the roads with these fallen leaves and so many different colors. I wondered if this was what inspired me to use the colors I had chosen on a current arrangement. While the style was not one reminiscent of Autumn, some of the colors seemed to have been inspired by it.
Every room should feel warm and inviting.
Have you ever walked into a room and wondered what was missing? Sometimes, the answer is simple – Greenery. Greenery adds life, brings the outdoors in. Haven’t you ever wondered why we make floral arrangements – faux or real – and bring them indoors? Or why we have picture windows or why we now incorporate glass walls to our home designs? It’s because we want to bring the organic energy indoors.
Autumn is the season we do this. We bring gourds and flowers and hay bales indoors to decorate. We bring in the lovely colors of the changing seasons indoors every year, time after time because they inspire us.
Use the colors that inspire you to create that warmth. A balance and combination of green (for life and balance), red or scarlet (for love and passion), plum (for spirituality ), and golden umber (for optimism) are the ones that inspire me during this time. These are my go-to colors for floral arrangements. You can mix and match them or use one, or maybe all – do as you please – but let yourself be inspired to create something of beauty. Things that come from your imagination and things that you can love will take a bit of time. Nonetheless, they are worth the wait.
Thanks for reading my blog and if you have time, I would love to know what inspires your arrangements this Autumn and which colors you would choose.
I chose green and plum.
Here’s my latest creation for a client. Made of different color succulents, dragon ferns, moss and floral sprigs, I think it will be a gem. One thing I do know is that I have developed a fixation for lovely succulent arrangements. Organic, don’t you think?
